The updated list of the 2024 World Ranking of Scientists (AD Scientific Index), published by the Cuban magazine Juventud Técnica, today places Cuban researchers and institutions at the forefront of this classification.
This classification and analysis system is based on the research performance and productivity of academic institutions at a global level.
For its selection, a comparative analysis of data from six previous years, obtained from the Google Scholar platform, was taken into account, as recently revealed by the media.
According to the ranking, the most outstanding Cuban doctors are Pedro A. Valdés, from the Neurosciences Center; René Delgado, a full professor at the University of Havana, and Yovani Marrero, his colleague at the Central University “Marta Abreu” of Las Villas.
Among the institutions of Higher Education were recognized the University of Las Tunas, the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte, the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI), the Technological University of Havana José Antonio Echeverría, while in the field of research, the Center for Engineering, Genetics and Biotechnology of this capital city stood out.
A total of 2,507 professionals from 44 institutions in the Greater Antilles were honored with this result, according to a report by Juventud Técnica.
On January 15, the Caribbean island will celebrate Cuban Science Day, and these results support the country’s efforts to promote an area of great importance, as conceived by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, 34 years ago.
For Latin America, the University of Panama stood out, taking first place for three consecutive years, while in the individual order, Mexican researcher Heriberto Castilla, from the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the Aztec nation, was one of the most relevant.
The 2024 edition of the ad Scientific Index included a total of 1,443,088 professionals from 219 countries and 22,774 scientific centers.
