Maffo local history event took place

For eternal remembrance and homage to the Battle of Maffo, led by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, the local history event was created 30 years ago and has been held every December since 1993 in this town of the same name.

On the morning of December 27, this important event took place with the exhibition of works that addressed such necessary topics as local martyrs, the history of Maffo, Fidel and the Battle of Maffo, the dissemination of biographical summaries of martyrs whose names bear some streets of Maffo, among others.

It was also held here, the recognition of outstanding researchers, speakers and members of tribunals, who have been continuously participating in this event.

Over time, this event has been enriched quantitatively and qualitatively with the participation of researchers from other regions of the country. The historian of the city of Contramaestre, Andrés Núñez Lora recalled that after several editions the event was about history and computing, and that on the 20th anniversary of the Battle of Maffo, 90 papers were presented at the scientific workshop.

Maffo local history event towards a promising future

The future looks promising for the continuity and strengthening of this local history event. According to Núñez Lora, the next event will include the revolutionary thought of Fidel Castro.

In addition to the historical and computer topics, others on culture have already been included, the historian of the city considers bringing for the next workshop topics on economics so that historians, researchers and specialists in economics put forward the economic development of the municipality Contramaestre and propose possible solutions to current problems, and ways to avoid repeating mistakes already made.

Thus, the delegation of the National Union of Historians of Cuba, continues to work on research and dissemination of national and local history through allegorical events to the Battle of Maffo, the founding of Contramaestre and the Grito de Baire, in legitimate defense of national identity.
