Cuban culture Day opened in Contra, aestre

With the notes of the Bayamo Hymn and the laying of a wreath at the monument of the Mother of the Maceo family, the Opening Ceremony of the Cuban Culture Day in Contramaestre began today.

The Jesús Rabí Park of the city was the scenario of the traditional cultural event. There, homage was paid to Andrés Batista Valdés, a plastic artist of national and international recognition for his wide artistic work, a personality to whom this year the Day is dedicated in the municipality.

The event was presided over by José Ángel Labrada Castillo, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the municipality; Manuel Rodríguez Alfaro, president of the Municipal Assembly of Popular Power (AMPP); Rafael Fonseca García, municipal president of Culture and also attended by mass organizations and the people of Contramaestre.

Songs, declamations and music were the protagonists of the meeting, where the talent of the artists of the territory provided moments impregnated with Cuban history and culture.

At the end of the event, the “Manos” Traditional Popular Crafts Exhibition was open to the public at the René Portocarrero Art Gallery, a sample of the work of artisans and entrepreneurs of the territory in which they reflect the customs and identity of the nation.

The Day of Cuban Culture is celebrated every year in Contramaestre, as in the whole country, from October 10 to 20, remembering the beginning of the struggles for independence, and the intonation for the first time of La Bayamesa, composed by Perucho Figueredo. It is an occasion to reinforce our roots and promote all manifestations of art and expressions of the Island’s cultural heritage.
