Salvador Valdés Mesa, Vice President of the Republic of Cuba, visited this Thursday productive areas of Contramaestre, to verify the progress in food production in this municipality of Santiago de Cuba province.
On this occasion, the also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), accompanied by the highest authorities of the territory and the first Secretary of the PCC in the province José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz, arrived at the premises of the productive pole El Rincón, the most recent local opening and where he could verify the recovery actions after the intense drought that affected these areas essentially engaged in the cultivation of viands, grains and vegetables.
In dialogue with producers and managers of the sector, Valdés Mesa was interested in the alternatives that are put into practice in the agricultural structures that operate there and called to not rest in the search for formulas that help to overcome the lack of inputs. He was also interested in the quality of the soils, their management and forms of improvement, as well as the selection of crops according to the conditions of the land.
Bungo productive pole welcomes Valdes Mesa
During his visit, Salvador Valdés Mesa went to the productive pole known as Bungo, another of those that in rainfed conditions in Contramaestre are developing a strategy for planting food crops such as plantain, cassava and sweet potato. He visited a small livestock production unit and ended his trip at the El Alcázar genetic farm.
There he was able to see the impressive productive growth of a farm that has managed to diversify its production, improve animal mass and become a reference entity thanks to the good use of science and technology in order to constantly increase the quantity and quality of egg, meat and milk volumes, as well as the highest genetic quality specimens.
In all cases, Valdéz Mesa called to work, not to stop in the difficulties and to think that everything that is done in the field is important for a nation that needs to achieve food sovereignty in the shortest possible time.
