The guarantee against disasters, accidents and other fatal events is to have safe, quality blood and blood products, hence the importance of having voluntary blood donors, anonymous heroes who save many lives.
Every June 14, the World Health Organization and its member countries celebrate World Blood Donor Day. In Cuba, the date also commemorates the donation made in 1970 at the Provincial Bank of Havana by our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz to help the people of Peru who had suffered a devastating earthquake.
On the 53rd anniversary of this date, a National Blood Donor Day is held, which starts on June 6th and lasts until the 14th of the same month.
The commemoration reaches Contramaestre where numerous blood donors extend their arms without asking for anything in return just for the conscious gesture that with a donation they can give hope of life back to anyone who needs it.
