Contramaestre held its Book Fair

The 32nd edition of the International Book Fair took place this Wednesday in the city of Contramaestre, with the presence of local intellectuals and artists who enlivened this important cultural event at the René Reádigos Pérez bookstore.

After the opening of the International Book Fair by the writer and poet Jorge L. Labañino, Jorge Luis Lora and Andrés Núñez, representing the branch of the National Union of Historians of Cuba in the municipality of Contramaestre, proceeded to the contextualization of this great event with a necessary allusion to the link of Contramaestre with the facts of the attack to the Moncada barracks, on its 70th anniversary, since Gregorio Cariaga, an attacker, was discovered and killed here by the henchmen of Batista’s tyranny.

On the other hand, there was an intervention of specialists of Radio Grito de Baire to make known the outstanding role played by the local radio station in the socialization of the historical and cultural knowledge of the territory. Afterwards, Andrés Nuñez Lora presented the book La oficialidad negra y mulata en el Ejército Mambí, of which he is one of the authors.

Other presentations at the Book Fair

The writer Arnoldo Fernández Verdecia presented with a vehement narration the literary work Órbita de Virgilio Piñeira, with emphasis on his controversial life which is clearly reflected in this and other books of his authorship.

Nancy Vega Garcés, writer, poet and artisan, made a formidable presentation of El son entero, a work by Nicolás Guillén, which denounces discrimination against blacks in all aspects. The presenter advocates the reading of this book, ways that serve to continue fighting the reminiscences of that racial discrimination.

Mayelín Valdés Sánchez, poet and writer, masterfully presented the work María Toda by Lourdes González Herrero, whose plot breaks with pre-established canons and shows a human and sensitive experience described in a unique way. This a kind of gift for the 32nd International Book Fair.

The writer Osmel Valdés Guerrero, presented the work of Alejandro Ponce Avestruces con Distortion, with a poetry that according to the presenter presents a poetry in emigration, or rather the way of making poetry, because it goes from a poetry difficult to understand to another with clearer language without killing the sense and purpose of rhyme and rhythm.

The 32nd International Book Fair in Contramaestre closed with a performance by several local artists and some comments from the audience.
