Contramaestre implements alternatives in agriculture in response to intense drought

intensa sequia contramaestre

An intense drought has negatively impacted food planting activity in Contramaestre, the most agricultural territory of Santiago de Cuba. The consequences are greater in areas such as Ruta Martiana where there is a high concentration of fertile land and farmers committed to food production.

Without forgetting the claims of the peasantry, the authorities of the province and the municipality put into practice a strategy that has allowed the cultivation of viands, grains and vegetables, where the sufficient balance of water is guaranteed in the face of the prominent drought.

One of the favored structures is the seed farm, belonging to Empresa Agropecuaria Laguna Blanca, in which a labor collective works in 30 hectares where agamic and botanical seeds are produced.
