Public health in Contramaestre to reinforce prevention in vulnerable areas

The Public Health sector of Contramaestre, being part of the more than ten organizations that integrate the Municipal Commission of Prevention and Social Attention, intensifies its work with direct prophylactic actions in several communities of the territory, especially in those sectors that typify with some type of vulnerability in the social and other areas.

On the part of this sector, specialists and technicians participate in the multidisciplinary team that has been working in the parents’ schools that have materialized in the pre-university institutes. Educational talks with adolescents and young people in changing or vulnerable neighborhoods have also had the presence of psychologists, psycho-pedagogues and public health social workers.

Facts threatening child health

In this area at the community level, educational talks have been held on different topics, including the consequences of smoking, drug addiction and teenage pregnancy, as well as attention to children with behavioral problems who do not comply with their school duties.

In addition, the actions of public health in terms of preventive activities in vulnerable segments are added to the evaluation of the level of risk perception of families in the face of violent actions or actions that violate the rights of minors and adolescents.

Special interest is also given to the Maternal and Infant Program (PAMI), as a priority that requires everyone’s attention, taking into account the impact of social problems on the main PAMI indicators, with the fundamental objective of reducing and eradicating the situations that increase the risks for pregnant women and infants. To date, 19 relevant obstetric-pediatric cases have been diagnosed, as well as 27 infants living in vulnerable neighborhoods.
