In Contramaestre, from this January 30, 2023 and until the nearest day February 3, will be taking place the individual consultation with the 161 delegates of circumscriptions about the candidacy project that will be submitted for the nomination of candidates for deputies to the Cuba Parliament for this municipality of the province of Santiago de Cuba.
In order to be in ideal conditions for the national elections next March 26, in Contramaestre such consultation is being carried out in the 13 districts of this jurisdiction of eastern Cuba, under the leadership of the Municipal Commission of Candidatures, with the purpose of getting everything ready for the nomination of the candidates, which will take place this February 5 in an extraordinary session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power.
Law 127 supports the consultation on the nomination of candidates to deputies
This process of consultation with the delegates of districts is covered by Article 188 of Law number 127 of 2019 “Electoral Law”, which refers that prior to the development of the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power, their delegates must be informed about the integration of the candidacies and at the same time individually ask their criteria.
This is a rigorous process since the resulting criteria will constitute confidential information for its subsequent evaluation by the National Electoral Council (CEN), and to determine the proposals that will be submitted to a vote by a show of hands and individually, in the extraordinary session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power.
In accordance with the Electoral Law, as a general rule, one deputy will be elected for every 30 thousand inhabitants or fraction greater than 15 thousand inhabitants. The Cuban Parliament shall be integrated in its Tenth Legislature by 470 deputies. All sectors of Cuban society shall certainly be represented in it, with a minimum of two deputies per municipality and no more than 50 percent of delegates from the Municipal Assemblies.
