To Lam Reaffirms Vietnam's Determination to Accompany Cuba

Hanoi, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam’s top party leader, To Lam, reaffirmed today to Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes the determination to accompany the island and be willing to do everything possible to support it.

In a meeting in the southern Ho Chi Minh City immediately after culminating the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the general secretary of the VCP said that the Vietnamese Party, State and people are in solidarity and share the difficulties and challenges facing Cuba.

Vietnam always treasures and remembers the solidarity and sincere support, both spiritual and material, that Cuba gave it in the struggle for national liberation and reunification, as well as in the current cause of defense and construction of the country, he said.

The loyal friendship and special cooperation between the two countries are a valuable asset to be preserved, promoted and passed on to future generations, To Lam was quoted as saying by the VNA news agency.

After recalling the good impressions and special feelings from his trip to Havana last September, he said he was confident that, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), his heroic people will overcome all difficulties and continue to reap achievements in the construction of socialism in the western hemisphere.

Valdes, for his part, congratulated Vietnam for the successful organization of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification and pointed out that today one can clearly perceive the atmosphere of enthusiasm and joy, as well as the firm conviction of the people in the leadership of the PCC and the State.

This, he said, is an important foundation for Vietnam to consolidate the great national unity and build up its strength to successfully achieve the goal of becoming a developed and high-income country.

Referring to the significance of the April 30, 1975 victory, the CPC Political Bureau member stressed that it was a triumph of justice and conscience, not only of the Vietnamese people, but of all peace-loving peoples of the world.

In an atmosphere of camaraderie and brotherhood, the two leaders expressed their joy at the strengthening of solidarity, special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the Parties, States and peoples of the two countries, especially in strategic and priority areas such as rice production, fisheries, renewable energy and biotechnology.

The two sides, the source added, also discussed a series of measures to further promote bilateral economic cooperation to make it more substantial and effective, with the determination to bring trade and investment ties on a par with their good political relations.

Valdes was received the day before by Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, who stressed the importance of the presence of a high-level Cuban delegation at the commemoration of the victory of the 1975 Spring as a symbol of the unwavering solidarity between the two countries.
