Cambodia attends Cuba Health 2025 Convention for first time

Phnom Penh, Apr 18 (Prensa Latina) Cambodia will be present for the first time at the V International Convention Cuba Health 2025 and will do so with a delegation of the health portfolio, which travels today to Havana.

The Cambodian representation is headed by the director of the Department of Communicable Disease Control of the Ministry of Health, Ly Sovann, who is accompanied by the deputy director of the Department of International Relations, Huy Meng Hut.

Cuban Ambassador Milena Zaldívar told Prensa Latina that during their stay on the island, the British delegation will also develop a program of official conversations with their Cuban counterparts on issues of mutual interest that, from the health field, will allow expanding and strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The diplomat pointed out that the attendance of a Cambodian mission to Cuba Health 2025 is doubly significant because, in addition to being an unprecedented event, it is the first official delegation to travel to Havana after the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, on April 15.

According to the diplomat, this is undoubtedly a fact that reinforces the friendship between our two countries, forged between the King Father, Norodom Sihanouk and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and based on mutual affection, respect and admiration.

The diplomat said that Cuba and Cambodia arrived at this commemoration “with the firm commitment to expand and strengthen bilateral cooperation, mutually beneficial, in various sectors, in order to promote the development and progress of both nations”.

In the context of this important milestone, he said, important agreements have already been signed this year that demonstrate the will to continue working for the consolidation of the ties of friendship and collaboration that unite our two countries.

She mentioned among these agreements a Memorandum of Understanding to improve rice production in Cuba, signed between the Agricultural Research and Development Institute of Cambodia (Cardi) and the Grain Research Institute of Cuba, which marks the beginning of a joint and innovative project for food security.

The Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC) and the Cambodian Ministry of Women’s Affairs signed a cooperation agreement last March in Havana, on the occasion of the visit of the head of that portfolio, Kantha Phavi, also with the purpose of promoting the historical and special relations of friendship.

Zaldívar also recalled the existence of a cooperation agreement between Cuba’s Prensa Latina and Cambodia’s AKP news agencies, “whose effectiveness contributes to projecting an objective image of both countries, while strengthening the shared principle of defending the truth of our peoples”.

On the other hand, she added, both countries continue to identify possible areas of cooperation in the field of sports, based on the interests expressed here regarding the promotion of baseball and baseball 5, as well as volleyball and boxing.
