Not even the persistent drizzle of this January 2, 2024 did not prevent the enthusiasm of the young people from taking over the historic town of Baire in the municipality of Contramaestre, when the Caravan of Freedom was reedited in its journey through Santiago de Cuba.
The traditional remembrance of the bearded men’s journey to the Cuban capital this time was led by Dánel García Salazar, Member of the Provincial Bureau of the Union of Young Communists, UJC, and was attended in Contramaestre by Yoelvis Suárez Zapata, First Secretary of the Party in the territory and Manuel Rodríguez Alfaro President of the Municipal Assembly of the People’s Power.
In front of the museum Casa “Jesús Rabí” the First Secretary of the UJC in Contramaestre Deris Yipsi Suárez del Toro, highlighted the transcendence of this event and reaffirmed the commitment to defend the revolutionary conquests and make them grow with the vigor and creative intelligence of the new generations.
In this route of more than a thousand kilometers from the heroic city of Santiago de Cuba, Baire has a special stop, here palpitates the legend of several mambises generals, the rebel tradition and the Cry of Independence or Death. All this seems to be reborn every January 2nd when the young people in the Caravan of Freedom return to reconnect with history.
