In Contramaestre, the governmental commission in charge of the agri-food and industrial activity, when recently evaluating the impact of the production and commercialization strategies of various crops, as well as the implementation of the municipal plan for food sovereignty, found deficiencies that in the future will be of the first order to face the challenges of the economy and, in particular, food production.
In this sense, in the territory, the referred working group, chaired by Deputy Mayitsi del Toro Fonseca, considers the need to insert in the territory the largest number of producers to the advanced movement led by the National Association of Small Farmers, ANAP, as well as to look for areas to increase the productive poles and to take more advantage of the existing ones.
How to achieve food sovereignty in Contramaestre
On the road to achieving food sovereignty, food and nutritional security, it is necessary in Contramaestre to strengthen the Turquino Plan, the local food system with the incentive to promote urban, suburban and family agriculture, as well as to prioritize comprehensive controls of illegal vendors, so that they comply with the established prices and contracted offers.
It would also be important to work with the centers that still lack self-consumption, as well as the control of the contracting plan for producers.
In Contramaestre, since last February, there has been a comprehensive government program that has defined each of the strategic lines on which the food and nutritional sovereignty law is based, a law that emphasizes the protection of the right to food of people in vulnerable situations and, as a novelty, regulates food waste and losses in the agri-food chain.
