Contramaestre paid homage this May 19, to our National Hero, José Martí, in the act carried out in the Remanganaguas cemetery, where his corpse was buried for the first time on May 20, 1895, one day after his death.
In this act in remembrance of the 128th anniversary of his death in combat, were present leaders of the Party, and the government of the municipality, of the Young Communist League, cadres of the mass organizations, workers and students of the educational institutions located in the Popular Council Xavier-Los Pasos.
It is necessary to highlight the participation of the pioneers of the primary schools Donato Mármol of Remanganagua, and Laureano Sánchez Río of Los Pasos, as well as the performance of local artists who enlivened this tribute to José Martí.
A wreath to Marti
Members of the Ceremonial Detachment of the Fransisco Bello Tortosa Mixed Center laid a wreath at the foot of the obelisk allegorical to the Apostle.
Andrés Núnez Lora, historian of Contramaestre, made a brief account of the events surrounding the death of the Apostle of the Cuban independence, and emphasized Martí’s decision to join the armed struggle, disobeying the orders of Gómez, because he understood that this was his place, at the front of the combat, as a good Mambí leader.
Likewise, the historian made a call to continue studying the work of José Martí and to preserve this cemetery, national monument, for the importance and transcendence that it has for the history of Cuba and for the municipality of Contramaestre.
The moment was propitious for the delivery of the card of militant of the Communist Party of Cuba to six comrades who after a long process that proved that they had the necessary qualities to belong to the vanguard of the Cuban society.
