World Blood Donor Day


World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every June 14 to recognize the generosity of volunteer donors and to raise awareness of the importance of irregular donations in ensuring the safety and availability of blood and blood products.

This is an opportunity to call attention to the need for voluntary donations and to thank those who extend their arm for their vital gift.

In Cuba, donation events and days are organized as well as recognition activities for donors who selflessly offer a little of themselves to help others.

Contramaestrians in the eastern part of the country who voluntarily donate their blood are aware that transfusions play a fundamental role in health care as they benefit patients with life-threatening health problems.

This year’s global campaign is themed “20 Years Celebrating Generosity: Thank You Blood Donors!” in commemoration of the 20th anniversary milestone and the profound impact blood donation has on the lives of patients and donors.
