Ozone therapy resumes at Contramaestre hospital

Since 2016, the ozone therapy consultation has been in operation at the Orlando Pantoja Tamayo General Teaching Hospital in the municipality of Contramaestre, province of Santiago de Cuba, offering treatment to patients with pathologies related to the specialties of orthopedics, neurology, dentistry, pediatrics, ophthalmology, dermatology, rheumatology and oncology, to mention a few.

Dr. Andres Torreblanca Chaveco, Specialist in National and Traditional Medicine in this medical institution and leader in the implementation of the treatment, referred that ozone provides multiple benefits to patients since it is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, as well as improves blood circulation, stimulates the immune system and other pathologies of the central and peripheral nervous system.

Dr. Andres answered questions inherent to this treatment.

Journalist: How do patients come to the office, who refer them to this office?

Dr: They refer all the specialties and here I choose the concentration of ozone that the patient should receive depending on his pathology… after the patient is evaluated, he is referred to the nurse to carry out the procedure.

Q: What are the hours of operation of the consultation… Does the hospital have the resources for this treatment?

Dr.: The hours are from 8 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon. Sometimes there is a shortage of tubing for the rectal route.

Q: How long does the treatment last?

Dr.: It is only a few minutes because it is an intrarectal gas. The sessions are 15 to 20 the first year of treatment, but if the patient has a chronic disease it can last all his life and he would receive it every 6 months.
