The Popular Council or district is a local body of the People’s Power of representative character and constitutes one of the most important spaces to debate and contribute to solve issues that have a direct impact on the population, as it happens in Contramaestre.
With this mission, in the present 18th period of mandate, the People’s Council of Frank País enhances the realization of popular controls over the entities of production and services of local incidence in which it exercises competence in the exercise of its functions and attributions.
Mariana Ramírez Vinajera, president of the urban council, one of the three most representative in number of electors among the 13 that make up the jurisdiction of Contramaestre, revealed this while rendering an account to the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power.
“In the current mandate, 28 popular controls have been developed, reaching important centers of production and services: bakeries, educational institutions, food units, community kitchens, pharmacy, mother’s home, and shoe and tobacco factories, among others”.
Mariana Ramirez’s statement responds to the fact that Law No. 132/2019 on the organization and operation of the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power and the People’s Councils, reveals the people’s way to exercise control and build the country’s model.
One of the most important changes incorporated by Law No. 132 was the right of the members of the popular councils to carry out controls over the entities of production and services of local incidence.
The popular nature of this exercise makes it a potential mechanism for regulation against illegalities and violations that usually occur in state and non-state institutions, and involves the citizens themselves as the driving force for the changes they need around them.
