Fidel welcomed his proletarian people illuminated by a light that anticipated the dawn. At eight o’clock sharp in Contramaestre the concept of Revolution immortalized by the Commander in Chief gave the advance signal for a multitude of faces, flags and slogans to dignify the Homeland with Hands and Heart.
First in the parade, the workers of the Food and Fishing Union, an indissoluble mass that in spite of the limitations and shortages, showed their alternatives to contribute to the feeding of the people, defying the energy contingency.
In white coats marched doctors, nurses and technologists conscious of their humanist work to demonstrate that the salvation of the human species is a priority in Cuba.
The more than 19 thousand workers of the fifteen unions in Contramaestre marched with the heroes of the homeland. Martí relived the 170th anniversary of his birth, Antonio Maceo recalled the historic Baraguá Protest, Ché celebrated in anticipation of his arrival while the heroes and martyrs of the Moncada barracks, ratified their commitment to the Homeland.
Contramaestre on May Day
The proletarian party in Contramaestre for May 1st became an open-air tribune for the children of this people to raise their voices against the genocidal blockade that tries to asphyxiate the Island: against the subversive campaigns that try to change our ideology.
Young people as a symbol of continuity distinguished themselves among the immense caravan of workers and families.
The asphalt of the central highway was thrown by mambises of these times, by children, students, housewives, retirees and peasants grateful for the Revolution.
The sun could not extinguish the clouds nor the brightness of the proletarian sweat, nor could it extinguish the initiatives, enthusiasm and color of the proletarian mass in Contramaestre.
Under this radiant morning, men and women of education, science and sports demonstrated how much can be done in the midst of adversity, united with the food and fishing unionists who went out to the streets to conquer with Hands and Heart a top place for the present and future of the Homeland.
