The city of Contramaestre has suffered in the last few days the consequences of water shortage due to irregularities in the operation of the pumping stations because of breakage and lack of spare parts.
The highest authorities of the municipality Yoelvis Suárez Zapata, Secretary of the Party, Manuel Rodríguez Alfaro, President of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power, and Karel Vazque López, Mayor, went to the place where the water pumping plants are installed in order to exchange with the workers and operators about the implementation of solutions to eradicate the lack of the precious liquid in our homes.
According to one of the operators, the water supply has been affected by the main pump, which is the one with the largest capacity, being out of circulation due to breakage. He added that it is expected that in the next few weeks it will be able to work and restore the service every five or six days, as is normal. In the meantime, with the other pump, of lesser capacity, an elementary service is maintained so that a minimum of water reaches each house, according to the information published by the journalist Ricado Chacón Rubio from Teleturquino.
In response to Rodriguez Alfaro’s concern about the priorities, the operator clarified that in the first place is the Orlando Pantoja Hospital, and in second place the Reparto 30 de Diciembre, due to the number of buildings, because none of these places can be provided with water service in water pipes.
The delegation also visited the largest site of solar panels in the country for water pumping which is located in the district of Baire. This pumping system has three palntas which work during the day, while at night only one can work, because they depend on the panels.
However, the distribution of water is affected by the inability of the conductors which will be revised shortly to replace them with others of larger diameter which will allow a greater volume of liquid to be delivered to the population of Baire, and to reduce the time in which they receive water, that is to say, to achieve cycles of fewer days between service and service.
The management of the municipality of Contramaestre verified that they are working intensely in the repair of plants and conductors that guarantee the service that the company Aguas Turquino guarantees to the population in Contramaestre and Baire.
Guaranteeing a stable water supply service to the population is a challenge in the midst of the difficult material conditions faced by the nation’s economy, aggravated by the limitations derived from the economic encirclement policy. In the Santiago municipality of Contramaestre, where the situation is similar to the rest of the province, work is being done with initiatives and the search for local solutions to minimize the effects and gradually improve this service.
