Federate Women exchange with mothers-to-be during breastfeeding jornada


From August 1 to 7, Cuba is holding a jornada de lactancia materna (Breastfeeding is giving life and love) with the aim of promoting this healthy practice for the mother and the newborn.

The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) arrived at the Clodomira Acosta Ferrals maternity home in Contramaestre to give an assault of love to the pregnant women who are waiting for the arrival of their child. This meeting is part of the varied activities developed by the organization in salute to the 64th anniversary of its foundation, next August 23.

Maité Villa Ortega, general secretary of the FMC of this municipality, during the exchange with the mothers-to-be and the personnel who work there, said:

“It begins the jornada de lactancia materna from August 1 to 7 and within the activities that we have in salute to the 64th anniversary of the organization we start with the maternal home that coincides with the week for breastfeeding and we bring a donation from a collaborator of the house of orientation to women and the family consisting of two boxes of soft drinks so that they can enjoy it in their lunch.”

For her part, Zoila Fernández Valdés, who is the head of the maternity home, referred at the opening of the jornada to the activities that will be carried out to promote the proper feeding of newborns through breastfeeding.

“We will be incorporating different activities, we will demonstrate techniques of how to breastfeed, how breastfeeding should be, the positions it takes. On the 7th, which is the closing day of the jornada por la lactancia materna, we will incorporate family members so that they know what breastfeeding is and what they should do after delivery to help the mother breastfeed the child. We will also teach techniques to teach them how to handle the baby”.
