Eleonide Dimet Beltrández is one of the many Cuban Quixote that bets every day to make produce the land. Farmer of the Cooperative of Agricultural Production (CPA) Saturnino Lora Torres, Lieto as many know him in the community of La Anacahuita of the municipality of Contramaestre, gets from his effort and sweat the economic sustenance of his family.
Since 2002 this producer worked two hectares of land. Extension where today are cultivated plantations of corn, yucca, peanuts, mango beans and guava.
Journalist: What constraints do peasants have today to produce the land?
Eleonide Dimet Beltrández (EDB): Many resources to work the land do not appear, the same files, machetes have to be bought outside and all that is necessary for work in the field.
Eleonides is a peasant who, like many others, implements alternatives to guarantee his harvests in the face of the deficiencies of various agricultural inputs that limit working the land today due to the complex economic situation that the island transits due to the genocidal blockade the Caribbean island and that affects the production line.
E.D.B: I have an ox yoke, I prepare the earth because the fuel is expensive does not appear. I made all this with the oxen, I took it out and now I’m weeding this.
Q: How much soil have you prepared with oxen?
E.D.B: About a hectare, it is slower but if possible.
This Cuban from the furrow gives his assessment about the current prices of agricultural products, what could be done is to increase the land to farmers so that there is more production and so prices go down.
