Congratulations to all those in the scientific community of the municipality of Contramaestre, who today, January 15, celebrate Science Day in Cuba, and well deserve recognition for the efforts they make to apply new technologies in different branches of the local economy for the collective welfare.
Contramaestre currently has a strong scientific community made up of the Technology Transfer Station of the Tropical Viands Research Institute, INIVIT), a headquarters of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, CITMA, the Municipal Plant Protection Territorial Station, in charge of researching the behavior and treatment of pests.
In addition to this list are specialists from the agricultural delegation of the Technology Dissemination Group, which is responsible for training, consulting and extension work in agriculture, with emphasis on fruit trees in eastern Cuba.
This scientific community, which also includes the Municipal University Headquarters, operates under a food system designed in Contramaestre, aimed at materializing the Law of Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security, in the territory, through the introduction of new technologies, as a result of research and constant training of personnel responsible for ensuring food production for the people.
Science also applies to coffee production
The coffee sector, a basic line of business in the municipality of Contramaestre, also benefits and gains in efficiency thanks to the systematic application of science and technology, with which they achieve higher yields in the production of the grain.
Experience tells us that research with a sustained scientific basis and the consequent application of its results in the different branches of the local economy, will gradually lead to the satisfaction of the food needs of the people.
The nation’s president Miguel Díaz-Canel while speaking at a meeting on the 2015 work of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), expressed:
“It is essential to turn science and scientific research into part of the country’s productive forces.”
Men and women of science in Contramaestrian strive to achieve, through the use of science and modern technologies, the sustainable development of the local economy and move towards food sovereignty, as guided by the country’s leadership, and needed by the Contramaestrian people.
