Contramaestre focuses on optimal farmland use

Contramaestre focus on the appropriate use of farmland

The non-optimal use of farmland was one of the difficulties in the recent annual balance of agriculture in the municipality of Contramaestre. In order to overturn this situation, the local agricultural department is working to speed up the procedures for the granting of idle land for usufruct.

“We are attending all the comrades who have interest in requesting these lands in our offices, we even mobilized to places where there is efficiently exploited land and that have not been declared by the companies with the intention that the delegate of the territory can declare it available so that all the land that is efficiently exploited are put in exploitation in the shortest possible time.”

To speed up the procedure it is necessary that all those involved comply with the terms established.

“In essence we have noticed that, especially in 2022, we had a lot of non-compliance with the terms (…) And we are working with all the factors that influence the documentation contained in the file to be able to process it, so that this will help us to do everything quickly and that the usufructuaries begin to work the fertile soil in the shortest possible time.”

But granting them land is only a first step, its proper exploitation, which is the end of this process, must also be supervised by the competent agents.

Land not exploited appropriately

“There have been recessions in the Delegation because the soil is not being exploited efficiently. And measures must be taken especially by the structure that is closer to the producer, the one that evaluates more systematically.”

The Delegation of Agriculture in Contramaestre also has the challenge, to conduct the process of declaring idle land in those companies that refuse to do so or are delinquent in doing so.

“With GeoCuba we have had differences with the directive part of the company, because they are not valuing objectively, disregarding the need that the country has, to put to exploit the fertile idle soil, and they do not have the conditions to exploit them.”
