The continuity of education in Cuba in times of Covid-19 is a priority of the Cuban Revolution that has cost quite a few efforts, if we take into account that the United States maintains an iron blockade that limits the totality of the processes. It should be taken into account that the country must import many of the educational materials. Every year, millions of dollars are allocated for these purposes, sums that are adjusted to asphyxiating strategies for our people alone.
Even with the existence of this US blockade, the will of Cubans is unbreakable and we have decided to continue at whatever cost is necessary, because the future of Cuba will be in the hands of well-educated men and women.
The restrictions imposed by the US blockade did not prevent the country, even with most of its educational centers closed and many of them functioning as field hospitals, from stopping the educational teaching process during the hardest moments of the Pandemic.
From the very beginning, the Education Sector adopted extreme measures, many of which were criticized at the time, but their timely implementation yielded positive results. Education changed its routines, and momentarily the system almost came to a standstill, when some predicted the disaster that never came.
Teachers, family and community faced the difficult challenge of continuing to teach. New measures were established, extreme schedules, joint cooperation, study houses were set up, new ways to deliver the contents; the process never stopped.
Our students continued to receive their subjects through tele-classes, non-presential meetings, they relied on telephone technology, the cooperation of the family was valuable and without it we would not have been able to advance to new stages.
Today, Cuban students attend their schools normally, they face shortages in this harsh reality they had to live, difficult moments that limit processes as basic as food, even so, resistance is their trump card, knowing that a successful future has to be preceded by a present full of sacrifices. Cuban students are grateful to their revolution.
