The 2025 science and technology event for the peasant cooperative sector was held in the southeastern municipality of Contramaestre. Led by the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) of the territory, the forum was attended by producers from various agricultural organizations, academics from the university campus, and members of the peasant organization’s bureau.
More than ten presentations were given by farmers in this event. Studies demonstrated the application of science, technology, and innovation to food production.
The papers presented covered a variety of topics, ranging from the synergy between the productive sector and universities and local governments, the planting of drought-resistant crops, seed production and conservation, and the impact of artificial intelligence on the productive sector.
The need to produce food in the current context and seek yields was the central focus of the forum on this occasion, a space that served as a forum for debate and knowledge sharing among farmers. Once again, the presentations demonstrated the hard work being done in the municipality of Contramaestre to make the land productive.
Productive linkages, promotion, and training of farmers regarding the importance of seed conservation and marketing were once again heard on this stage, as this issue has recently been affecting farmers.
The importance of holding the Agroecology workshop, an event that served as a prelude to the forum, was highlighted at the meeting.
Three projects were selected to represent the municipality in Santiago de Cuba province. This process is part of the preparations for the 9th International Meeting on Agroecology, Food Sovereignty, Nutritional Education, and Cooperativism, to be held this year in the country’s capital. This event has had a prominent presence in the Santiago de Cuba region.
