Environmental Convention Continues Sessions in Havana

Havana, July 4 (Prensa Latina) The 15th International Environmental Convention continues its activities today at the Havana Convention Center with congresses, panels, conferences, and an exhibition fair.

Seven congresses are on the program for this biennial event, which will bring together more than 500 Cuban and foreign delegates from nearly twenty countries until tomorrow.

In this setting, as part of the first meeting of the scientific sector, Cubans living abroad advocated for strengthening cooperation on projects for environmental preservation.

In addition, Cubans living in Turkey, Germany, and Angola supported the initiative to create alliances and programs to address the proper management of coastal marine ecosystems and the search for financing and technological resources to restore watersheds and the national electricity system, and advance food and nutritional security.

Likewise, Law 150/2022 on the Natural Resources and Environment System, enacted by Cuba, was presented yesterday in book format.

The content of the regulatory text was explained. Among its new features are the incorporation of the environmental dimension into the country’s economic and social development plans and the integration of strategic environmental assessment from the conception of development programs.

The law introduces the concept of environmental damage and establishes civil and criminal liability for causing it.

The exhibition fair, which promotes the exchange of sustainable technologies, experiences, and practices in different contexts, is also operating in parallel.

International and governmental organizations, companies, universities, research centers, service centers, non-governmental organizations, tourism agencies, and protected areas, among other entities, exhibit here.

In addition, book launches, agreement signings, and various other activities are held in this space.

Under the theme “Raising Awareness for a Healthy Environment,” delegates participated in events such as the 15th Congress on Environmental Education for Sustainable Development, the 14th Congress on Protected Areas, the 12th Congress on Environmental Management, and the 10th Congress on Ecosystem and Biodiversity Management.
