Martí, a living presence in the 21st century

Martí, a living presence in these times

How can Martí help us in these times? His journey runs through his Cuba with a greater strength for all of us. The most universal of Cubans is the moral soul of the nation, the spiritual guide of the Island, the light that inspires us to be continuers of social justice.

His human condition at the service of the poor and the needy, speaks of his devotion to justice for the homeland, because the strength of his ideas constitute irreplaceable precepts for the defense of the nation.

The Apostle taught us that to do is the way to say with noble and altruistic aptitudes, that if we study with depth his work and thought, the good and the utility of virtue will obtain great benefits.

Martí was the sun of the moral world that warned us of the lies of the giant of the seven leagues, who lived in his own flesh the horrors in his childhood that he swore to fight until he fell in Dos Ríos, not to be a slave of anyone.

Martí’s ideal of rights

The National Hero is the wise that in man exists the force of justice and this is the first state of Law. His humanism led him to respect like no one else the human dignity, the rights of men and women, the possible equity in a society, the love for children, casting his lot with the poor of the earth.

Martí’s ethic shows the world his moral forces, his whole character, his balance. I have faith in human improvement and in the usefulness of virtue, evidence of his transparency in the face of life.

His anti-imperialist essence reaffirms the characteristics of monopolistic capitalism, social neglect, the struggle of the republican and democratic parties for power.

Loving the painful and suffering American lands, from the Rio Bravo to Patagonia, reveals his Latin Americanism. Martí was the David, who every day was in danger of giving his life for his country and his duty.

Today, when we live in such a complex era, where the balance of the world does not exist and is increasingly doubtful, where the economic, political and cultural order is unsustainable, Martí is a living presence; to love him is to love Cuba.

To apprehend his vision of the universe helps us to understand, grow and live. To think and act Martí means to have a consistent attitude towards life, to work tirelessly for Cuba, to fight against all injustice and to prepare ourselves to serve our homeland unconditionally.
