A delegation from the International Assembly of the Peoples (IAP) voiced their full backing for Cuba’s stand against the imperialist actions of the U.S. government today during a meeting at the Fidel Castro Ruz Center in the capital. Joao Pedro Stedile, from the National Directorate of the Landless Workers’ Movement of Brazil, stated that it is crucial to ramp up solidarity with Cuba in the face of a new offensive by the Trump administration aimed at stifling the people of the largest island in the Antilles.
In his remarks, he highlighted the friendly ties between the two countries, evident in cooperation across many areas, while also denouncing the war plans pursued by the American administration globally. He further clarified that the delegation’s visit to the island is intended to delve deeper into the damages caused by the U.S. blockade against Cuba and, based on this assessment, to strategize effective ways to assist the archipelago in overcoming these challenges.
Fred M’membe, president of the Socialist Party of Zambia, expressed that a population like Cuba’s does not deserve the ongoing siege it faces from imperialism, which is intensifying across various social and economic sectors. Addressing Washington’s falsehoods about the Caribbean nation’s reality, he emphasized that Cuba’s only “threat” is its commitment to kindness and its role as a global example of solidarity. M’membe stressed that, given the challenging circumstances on the island, Africa will contribute what little it can to support Cuba as a token of gratitude for the invaluable assistance received during liberation struggles on the continent in the late last century.
Brian Bécker, leader of the Party for Socialism and Liberation in the United States, explained that President Donald Trump’s recent actions demonstrate the extent of the economic war waged against the largest island in the Antilles, simply because it is a nation that has never surrendered to imperialist pressures or relinquished its sovereignty. This solidarity from across the globe highlights a growing recognition of the injustices faced by Cuba and a unified commitment among diverse nations to stand in support of the island’s resilience and enduring spirit.
