One of the main objectives of the Young Communist League (UJC) in Contramaestre is to integrate young people from the municipality into educational and productive activities. In this area, care for young people who are not linked to education and working life is carried out taking into account the needs and aspirations of this age group today.
This is a work of accompaniment and guidance, aimed at the welfare of youth within and outside the organization. This was explained by Melisa Salinas Rodríguez, acting secretary of the UJC in the municipality:
“We work with these young people and provide them with the support and advice they need to find a job that meets their needs and is enjoyable for them. We link them to the job fairs held in the territory, and with the Ministry of Labor, giving them information on available places. In addition to work, they can link up with the CUM Municipal University Center, as a way of broadening their educational horizons, and thus be able to access jobs with higher pay and scope”.
Salinas Rodríguez also said that currently the greatest challenge in terms of work with youth is in the ideological sphere, under the idea of attracting young people to the organization as well as its different tasks and activities.
“It is necessary to reach each of the young people, and make them feel part of the UJC, whether they are militants or not. You have to motivate them from social networks, and let them see that we represent their interests. Our greatest challenge is to have a more direct interaction with the whole youth of Contramaestre”.
The active participation of young people in work activities within the municipality is a significant contribution to the economy of the territory, as well as to different local and institutional development projects. In this sense, the support of the Union of Young Communists as the main political organization of the younger ones, aims to yield encouraging results.
