Discussion of the draft of the New Labor Code

The Contramaestre Municipal Public Health Union is already preparing for the consultation process for the Draft Labor Code Law.

On September 17, the municipal leadership of the sector will be the first entity to debate the legal document that will govern Cuban working life. Forty-five assemblies will be held in this union, one of the largest in the country.

For this reason, training meetings are being held with union secretaries from the various Contramaestre public health centers, where details of the document and the characteristics of this consultation process are provided.

These preparatory meetings have been accompanied by members of the provincial bureau of the labor organization. On this occasion, comrade Mairelis Reyes Montes de Oca spoke with union representatives and outlined some elements to consider when holding assemblies at workplaces. Among these, it is worth highlighting that these meetings must be held in the morning, with no time limit, and for this purpose, the production process, services, research, and teaching must be organized to allow for the attendance of all workers.

The public health union will hold consultation assemblies for the Draft Labor Code Bill in September and October. In the first stage, the unions with the smallest number of members will carry out the process, and in October, the largest unions will be among those with a large workforce.

The distribution of brochures is currently one of the tasks the sector is focusing on, with the goal of ensuring that workers are aware of the provisions of the new bill, which is considered innovative and innovative.

In the training meetings, union members have discussed several elements addressed in the document, such as the duration of social service for recent graduates, the elimination of labor justice bodies, remote work and teleworking, attention to workers with disabilities, working conditions, the creation of an APK for job searches on digital platforms, the elimination of the administrative authority to approve or reject requests for unpaid leave, which the document states is a worker’s right, among other elements.
