School year, an end and a beginning

School year, an end and a beginning

For students, the months of July and August are seen as a time of rest, a time of respite. Certainly, they mark the end of one school year, giving way to a new period later on. However, for those completing their education, this stage takes on special significance.

The holidays have a different flavor for the sixth-grade student, who will soon be studying at junior high school; This isn’t just a change of school, but an important transition to a new stage of life: adolescence. New teachers, new classmates, more complex subjects, but above all, a different perspective on the world. This space between childhood and youth is precisely what makes this transformation more complex.

Similar is the case for those who complete primary and secondary education. Some begin to make decisive decisions for their future, as they must choose between pre-university, vocational training, and other options; Others reach adulthood and debate their preferred university majors, which will determine much of their future. At this point, doubts are a common occurrence, and the fear of having made the wrong decision constantly lurks.

For university students in their final academic year, as we conclude our studies, the change is much more profound. The satisfaction of achieving such a worthy goal is undeniable, but it also marks the beginning of a working life, very different from what we’re used to. Responsibilities will increase, we will have a social commitment in our new positions, and we will be part of a specific profession, with the specificities that each entails. We will also begin to become financially independent, although, in some cases, this is not a new development.

The truth is that, for all of those mentioned, July and August, more than a rest, will be a time of reflection, as personal growth, although overwhelming, is inevitable and necessary; it is a way of preparing ourselves for what lies ahead. Studying is similar to life itself: a set of logical steps, goals to achieve.

For this reason, from the youngest children to those of us who will soon be workers, the support of those who love us will be essential to recognizing and managing the emotions we may feel when leaving behind a path and embarking on an unknown journey. As the current school year concludes, another door opens before our eyes.
