Agroecology Workshop Held in Contramaestre

The Los Martínez farm was selected to host the Agroecology Workshop in the municipality of Contramaestre. This event was held prior to the 9th International Meeting of this discipline, to be held in November of this year in Havana.

The workshop was attended by various producers from this eastern territory who implement agroecological techniques, as well as specialists from INIVIT, cooperative presidents, farmers’ families, and other guests.

The exchange served to share and learn about agroecological practices, their results and impact on food production, as well as on the development and yield of various crops.

Among the topics discussed were the use of organic matter, biopreparations, soil conservation, and crop association.

Contramaestre agroecological producers also discussed their experiences with vermiculture in crops such as red papaya and coffee plantations in the plains.

The workshop included a tour of the Los Martínez farm, a landmark polygon for seven years, represented by usufructuary Ramón Martínez of the Jesús Menéndez Larrondo Credit and Services Cooperative. Here, attendees were able to observe various agroecological practices with effective results.

This Agroecology event in Contramaestre served as a platform to learn about the movement’s work to date and as a prelude to the Forum, which will take place next July and where those who will represent the territory in the province of Santiago de Cuba will be selected.
