Producing food even under the most difficult conditions is the main objective of the farmers in the municipality of Contramaestre. An example of this can be found in the collective of the “La Poderosa” farm, which is located in the surroundings of Las Guásimas solar park in this territory of Santiago de Cuba province.
The concept of optimal use of available resources, especially the use of animal traction and irrigation underpinned by solar energy, has boosted food production all year round on the La Poderosa farm.
The principles of this farm are: direct delivery to markets, payment of 1,000 pesos for an eight-hour workday, donations to health institutions, and the planting of a wide variety of foodstuffs.
The new project will promote the planting of bananas, which are already in place in the thermal park that is part of the solar energy agricultural project that is gradually taking shape in Contramaestre and in which La Poderosa is one of the main beneficiaries.
