“Humor cannot be blocked”, is the title of the exhibition opened at the International Press Center, in this capital, against the economic, financial and commercial blockade policy of the United States towards Cuba.
Artists Aristides Hernandez, Ismael Lema, Adan Iglesias, Enrique Lacoste, Jose Luis Lopez, Osvaldo Gutierrez, Alfredo Martirena and Jose Alberto Rodriguez are taking part in the exhibition.
At the inauguration, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio stressed that this is an artistic expression and humor, which is a manifestation of the Cuban people’s expression in rejection of U.S. aggression for more than six decades.
“It is not something new in our history, it has been a tradition in our country, in the revolutionary process, to express in multiple ways, including graphic humor, the rejection of the population to such a persistent and merciless war against the Cuban people.
He underlined that the aggression of the United States against Cuba “is merciless; it is not a military aggression, but it is destructive, as it has been for more than 60 years against all the people of Cuba.
He added that if there were any doubts, it would be enough to see the recent statements made last week by the Secretary of State (Marcos Rubio), which leave no room for doubt, that in the problems between Cuba and the United States there is a country that is the aggressor, which is the United States, and there is a country that is the victim of U.S. aggression.
“Our people have been able, by their nature, their culture, their idiosyncrasy, to use humor to express even the strongest repudiation, the strongest rejection of imperialism, and these caricatures are an expression of that.
Cossío said that the Cuban people, “stoic as they are, optimistic as they are, have been able to show humor even in the most dramatic moments, and in the moments when the most heroic acts are carried out, therefore it should not be surprising that even in the face of the economic war against Cuba, it is expressed in this way, in graphic manifestations of our artists”.
