During the twentieth ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power of Contramaestre, the issue of the production of medicinal plants was discussed.
The work commission in charge of evaluating the fulfillment of the plans warned that both objective and subjective aspects threaten the good progress of the program approved in the territory to sustainably increase this important line for public health.
A figure that illustrates this is the situation in the provincial farm destined for these purposes in the Laguna Blanca company, which has 30 hectares of land and only 12 of them are currently planted.
Another element that illustrates the current state of the issue is that after several months of being founded, the aforementioned farm lacks a stable water supply source, its irrigation system is interrupted, the drying system is incomplete and the capping house is not working.
In its favor, it must be acknowledged that the plan for plant mass deliveries in the first half of the year is being complied with, although two provincial companies fail to collect the aloe vera.
In the midst of a growing demand for phytopharmaceuticals, medicines whose active substance contains the extract of a certain plant, it is clear that more emphasis should be placed on the fulfillment of the National Program of Natural and Traditional Medicine, which is contained in the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution for the period 2021-2026.
Treating ailments, alleviating symptoms and promoting health in general are the main benefits of dozens of medicinal plants available in Cuba and their cultivation requires more commitment and awareness.
