Havana, May 2 (Prensa Latina) The United States government is incapable of accepting Cuba’s independence and strives to make life difficult for the Cuban people, said Carlos Fernandez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean island.
During the “International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, anti-imperialism and against the resurgence of fascism” taking place in this capital, the official condemned the measures of the White House against the Cuban Revolution and the attitude of those who claim that the economic blockade imposed by the U.S. government means a benefit for certain sectors of the Cuban economy.
He assured that in spite of the current economic situation of the country, the Cuban people assume the challenges with new challenges, committed to a historical process of long struggle for justice.
Ulises Guilarte, secretary general of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, also denounced the U.S. sanctions against the Republic of Cuba, highlighting their impact on the health sector, where they limit the import of medicines and necessary technologies, “deteriorating the level of consumption and welfare of the Caribbean people”.
“This blockade is a violation to the self-determination of a sovereign state and a transgression to the international project due to its extraterritorial character”, expressed Guilarte, who also reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to support in solidarity with other peoples of the world.
For his part, Fernando González, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, mentioned that Cuba “supports the legitimate rights of the original peoples and communities to respect for their identity, self-determination and protection of their natural areas of life, and we support the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace and all those efforts and initiatives that promote collaboration over confrontationism”.
“While they export their weapons and wars, they denigrate Cuban medical collaboration that has benefited more than 5 million people in the world, mainly in vulnerable territories and communities; they accuse us of sponsoring terrorism, the empire finances, offers advice and openly supports state terrorism and genocide”, denounced Gonzalez.
The event was attended by more than 900 people belonging to 269 organizations from 39 countries, to debate and defend the rights of the working class, the sovereignty of the peoples and social equality.
