The provincial grain extensionist, Juan Miguel Perez, officially opened the session and with this action began another working day, now devoted to review work carried out in 2024.
In addition to being producers, those present are referents in food production, agents of multiplication of knowledge and good practices, who contribute to the application of science and technique in the planting of corn, beans and rice, among other basic grains.
Here it was learned that the municipality of Contramaestre already has more than 80 hectares planted with rice and that the popular movement has spread to the municipalities of Mella and Santiago de Cuba.
The number of improvement actions developed in 2024 through conferences, workshops, tours, meetings with leading producers is impressive. All in coordination with the Institute of Grains, the Municipal University Center and the University of Oriente, among other scientific institutions that covered more than 600 farmers.
The meeting of extension producers discussed grain varieties with higher yields and adaptability to Santiago’s soils, the use of bioproducts such as LEBAME, and preventive actions in the control of pests and diseases.
The extensionists shared their experiences in which they combine tradition and new practices, focused on reaching precision agriculture.
