The agricultural extension movement of the province of Santiago de Cuba developed the balance corresponding to the year 2024. The meeting was characterized for being an exchange of experiences among the extensionist producers of this part of eastern Cuba.
Dialogue that took into account the operation, practices and new ways of producing food with varieties of high genetic and productive level in resilience with the environment.
This movement is made up of 60 members in the province. Of these, 88 percent are located in the southeastern municipality of Contramaestre. In the last few years, six women producers have joined the movement, representing 10 percent of its membership. Currently, some of these women of steel and honey defend and bet on the cultivation of popular rice. This program captures the attention of Contramaestrian farmers every day.
Among the topics addressed in the balance were the synergies that have been made with different projects that have been implemented in the province. Institutions such as the Universidad de Oriente and the Research Institutes: INIVIT, GDITEC. Associations that have benefited the extension movement in terms of science and innovation.
The impact and benefit of the extension system in the province, training actions, results and impacts of didactic materials on producers, the work of dissemination and diffusion of the movement, training of future extensionists, results and trends in seed production were other topics discussed. In the case of seed production and certification, the participants analyzed the current situation in the Contramaestre territory and how to reverse it through agricultural extensionism.
In the balance, important agreements were reached that will influence the operation and work projections for the next period. Commitments ranging from the implementation of training workshops on pests and diseases, the use of agroecological techniques and innovations applied by extensionists, to the strengthening of relations with local governments in order to create alliances that promote better agricultural extension work in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
At the meeting, extensionist producers with outstanding work in the movement were recognized. Among those honored were extension producers Ramón Martínez and Idalberto Abreu and young people Yusel Casanova Leyva, Laritza Brizuela and Yumaika Pérez Guerrero.
