Contramaestre Holds the 13th Farmers’ Congress Assembly

Contramaestre is the most agricultural municipality in the province of Santiago de Cuba. In its thousands of hectares of fertile land, 3550 men and women associated to the National Association of Small Farmers, ANAP, a peasant organization that represents their interests and aspirations, work every day.

Precisely in this territory of Santiago de Cuba, the Thirteenth Assembly of the ANAP will take place this February 8, an event that has included a process of debate in the 27 Credit and Service Cooperatives, CCS, and the seven Agricultural Production Cooperatives, CPA.

The boards of directors, without abandoning their daily work in the field, gave an account of their management to the members’ assemblies.

Contramaestrian farmers elected their pre-candidates for congress, members of the committees in the municipality, the province and the nation, as well as their delegates to the municipal assembly in the midst of the rigorous planting and harvesting season.

Despite the serious limitations of resources, the farmers of Contramaestre are coming to this event fulfilling the commitments of planting in the cold and spring stages.

Their organization has accompanied them in processes of contracting and commercialization of their productions, as well as in their necessary links with organizations such as education, health and culture.

The 34 cooperatives operating in Contramaestre are represented at the 13th ANAP Congress Assembly, an event to which they arrive more motivated to strengthen the productive economic front as the essence of their work.
