The city of Contramaestre upon arriving today February 5, 2025 to its 111th anniversary of its founding, is hosting its now traditional local history event with the purpose of preserving and disseminating its historical memory.
As part of the activities within the week of Contramaestre’s culture, the municipal Art Gallery made available to the public the painting of local medical artist Arturo Frómeta Matos, who touches on local and universal themes in his paintings with the freshness of graphite and watercolor.
During the event, research works were presented on the presence of Cuba’s Apostle José Martí and the eternal Commander Fidel Castro in the economic development of the municipality of Contramaestre, which is beginning to take steps towards a sustainable economy that in the future will guarantee food sovereignty, a need foreseen by both thinkers.
Other papers presented dealt with the management and conservation of monuments and historical sites, so that they never lose their importance as aspects that contribute to perpetuate the history of a nation.
Andrés Núñez Lora, historian of the city, emphasized the need to continue developing case histories to discover and disseminate the history of historically important places in the territory, as well as of some prominent figures about whom little or nothing is known.
On the other hand, the historian called on those present to participate in the local history and computer event to be held in Baire on February 19, as is now traditional, as part of the week of culture dedicated to the Grito de Baire which took place on February 24, 1895.
