As part of the country’s preparation for defense, the Bastion 2024 Strategic Exercise kicked off this Wednesday until January 24, presided over by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, president of the National Defense Council.
In his speech, the head of state said that the exercise is being carried out to “continue raising the level of preparation and cohesion of the leadership and command bodies, the troops and the territorial defense system at all levels”.
And thus, together with the people, he said, face any variant of aggression against our Homeland. “In the interest of continuing to strengthen the military invulnerability of our nation, comrade General of the Army, I propose to start the strategic exercise.”
The Bastion 2024 Strategic Exercise was planned for November of last year; however, due to the effects of hurricanes Oscar – in the eastern provinces – and Rafael – in the west – and the impact of earthquakes in Granma and Santiago de Cuba, it was necessary to postpone it for this year.
The purpose of the exercise is to train the management and command bodies of the different structures in charge of national and territorial defense, in the organization of work in the interest of raising the country’s readiness for defense and the preparation of the troops and the population, in order to face the different actions of the enemy.
This Tuesday, January 21, the University Student Bastion was held, an expression of the participation of young people in the defense of the Homeland.
Maneuvers and tactical exercises of different types will be carried out during the Strategic Exercise Bastion 2024, and on National Defense Day, which will be Saturday, January 25, with the participation of units of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior and other components of the territorial defense system. Thus, there will be troop and war material movements, aviation flights, and explosions may be felt throughout the country.
The Strategic Exercise Bastion 2024 is an essential element in the materialization of our doctrine of the War of the Whole People.
