January 8, 1959 witnessed one of the most prominent events in the history of Cuba: the triumphal entry of the Caravan of Freedom into Havana, symbolizing the final victory of so many battles and agonies to overcome torture and desolation.
It was the result of the wars against Spanish colonialism, of the subsequent struggles during the neo-colony and the puppet governments; it was the final fruit of the decision of the centenary generation to honor its heroes and to continue the struggle until victory and the realization of truncated dreams.
For there to be a Caravan of Freedom there had to be first an assault on the Moncada Barracks led by Fidel Castro, there had to be a supreme prison forge of the 26th of July Movement, which would lead to Mexico, mother of the expedition of the Granma Yacht. First there had to be the landing of the Granma, the Sierra Maestra and the Rebel Army with each victory.
Seen in its history, this was the only way to create a caravan of freedom, and this was the only way to produce a triumphal entry of the Caravan of Freedom in Havana on January 8, 1959.
Seen in its prospective, it was the prelude to a revolution that would transform the terrible reality of a nation under evil dominions and would bring the light to illuminate a path that would go beyond the confines of the island, to reach with its mantle of solidarity to many corners of the world thirsty for the goodness that the caravan of dignity of this free Cuba can share.
Today the Caravan of Freedom conquers the world under the Marti’s concept that Cuba is humanity, and travels the island under the concept of Revolution of our undefeated Commander Fidel Castro.
