Contramaestre focusing on current demographic dynamics

Contramaestre identifies actions demanded by the current demographic dynamics.

In Contramaestre, in an institutional manner and with the leadership of the government, actions are identified that lead to revert the current demographic dynamics, taking into account that for the Cuban State, the attention to this matter is of great interest.

This is an issue that occupies the local administration at the territorial level, based on an action plan that has already been implemented for its consequent review and the tasks to be developed.

In this sense, the governmental will to increase the number of qualified personnel in specialties related to reproductive and safe health care for the fertile population stands out.

A look from the government to the attention demanded by the demographic dynamics in the territory, in fact the municipality with the oldest population in the province of Santiago, is also directed to include in the plan of the economy the execution of works that facilitate to offer better quality of life to the population over 60 years old.

Likewise, it is planned to carry out studies to identify causes and possible solutions to the evident internal migration from the countryside to the city with special emphasis on enclaves whose situation is very present in communities such as La Torcaza and Tilita.

In this sense, the Popular Council of Patricio Lumumba is expected to be one of those favored in the future with a grandparents’ home, taking into account the high number of long-lived people living in this demarcation. On the other hand, in Contramaestre we will continue to look for ways to increase the opening of the children’s homes and thus guarantee the care of the infants of working mothers.

An important element to accompany the actions in the socio-demographic field will also be the implementation of Decree Law 84, which recently came into force for the power of the Council of State, extending the period of social benefits for postnatal maternity leave until the child reaches 15 months of age.
