A new school year, a different phase

The start of the new school year in Cuban educational centers is scheduled for September 2, which is reason enough for us to worry and take care of this beginning and to ensure that it has all the quality that students and educators deserve.

The economic, political and social panorama that Cubans live in has a negative impact on the proper development of the planned teaching-learning process, since the shortages and impossibilities of acquiring teaching aids, school supplies and other necessary materials are increasing and causing an imbalance in the educational system, a situation that is intensified by the imperialist blockade that the island is experiencing.

Sometimes there is a shortage of pencils, notebooks or textbooks, all of which, although they may be detrimental, do not determine the success of the school year.

Faced with every difficulty, teachers find viable solutions, build teaching aids with recyclable materials, repair school furniture and study materials, create teams of students who use existing books collectively, and take advantage of daylight to carry out tasks and practical work.

Our education stands out in the search for creative initiatives that place us, overcoming the difficulties, among the countries that exhibit a good, free and compulsory education for all.
