Mobile, a city in the southern United States

Mobile, Alabama, is an important cultural center on the Gulf Coast and for Tony Steve San Martin, life here today moves at a different pace than in other U.S. cities.

San Martin is a Honduran emigrant who in 1973 came here to study and “I ended up enlisted in the air force,” he told Prensa Latina.

He is now retired after 42 years of military service and can devote part of his time to strengthening his ties of friendship and getting to know cultures.

He said that the Hispanic community in this city is small, but “we try to stay united as much as possible.

For example, the Cuban culture and food, the fellowship he has achieved with families from the Caribbean island, is part of what San Martin is grateful for since he decided to settle in this part of the country two years ago.

He does not know Cuba, the image he had had until now was distorted because “it is what they say”, but one thing he is sure of is that “I know people who come and go and are happy when they return (when they visit the island)”.

About Mobile, he likes that it retains its personality with charming neighborhoods, good museums and finger-licking local food.

After the French settled Mobile in 1702, it was governed under six flags: France, Spain, Great Britain, the Republic of Alabama, the Confederacy and finally the United States.

Alabama is one of the 50 states that, together with Washington D. C., form this country of North America. Its capital is Montgomery and its most populated city is Huntsville.

Located in the Southeast Central Division, Alabama borders Tennessee to the north, Georgia to the east, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to the south, and Mississippi to the west.

Historical data indicates that Alabama was admitted to the Union on December 14, 1819 as the 22nd state.

Demographic data for 2021 show that this state, which treasures important iconic sites of the Civil Rights Movement, has a population of more than five million.
