As a result of deep debates in the Party’s grassroots organizations in Contramaestre and in compliance with the sugarcane recovery policy of the country, within the framework of the celebrations for the National Rebellion Day, the province of Santiago de Cuba has worked intensively on the sugarcane seed banks.
Of five seed banks registered in Santiago de Cuba, only two are still without certification; one of them in the municipality of Contramaestre is about to achieve it. This bank already has an irrigation system that it lost ten years ago.
Contramaestre, paving the way to sugarcane recovery
So far, this bank has two varieties of sugarcane: Cuba 00575 and Cuba 90469, for their high sugar content.
The workers of the registered seed bank of Contramaestre are now concentrating on starting up the heat treatment plant, in a mostly young collective, such as this one, there is a predominant awareness that this is where the sugarcane recovery begins.
In the cold season, 243 hectares are expected to be sown, which is the seed that will guarantee planting in the spring of 2024, and it is estimated that it will have the best quality.
The provincial authorities of the sector recognized the effort and the result of the work carried out by the sugarcane company in Contramaestre, and at the same time it is the best tribute to salute July 26th, National Rebellion Day.
