They were young men ready to attack the future, to write history with blood, that which today reveres it and welcomes it in the sacred space of heroes. They were good sons, who 70 years ago, with steel courage in their chests, decided to immortalize a night to bring the dawn, to renew the foundations of a Cuba in need of transformation. Moncada was the Revolution itself.
It was a different generation that read Martí’s doctrines to carry rifles on its lushness to loosen its moorings, reverse outrages and bless with the kiss of freedom the forehead of the withered Homeland.
How can we fail to understand the enthusiasm of those hearts that climbed the hills of the Sierra to ride fearlessly to the victorious January!
They were warriors with airs of renewed improvement and with justified reasons to make more sublime the morning of Santa Ana, inscribed in the memory of the nation.
Moncada setback became a victory in the long run
That attack on Moncada barracks did not succeed, unfortunately, but it was a moral victory that wrapped the dignity of Cuba to fan the flame that ignited the true and definitive independence.
How can we not defend the Moncada! How can we not be grateful for its legacy! Thanks to that incomparable July 26, tenths and songs of loyalty to history are inscribed; the peasant produces and harvests, and the young man moves forward with projects of renewal.
Thanks to the National Rebellion Day, the vision of the pioneer who looks with pride widens more and more, the builder builds schools, hospitals, factories; the artist remains captivated in his creation, while the educator strengthens himself to prevent the historical and identity roots from dying.
