Economists in Contramaestre prior to their national congress

In Contramaestre, the assembly process prior to the Ninth Congress of the Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba, ANEC, becomes a space to discuss and propose actions with a view to continue strengthening the role of the affiliates, in the presence of the updating of the Cuban economic-social development model.

After having issued the call for the congress to be held from June 12 to 14, 20224, the Municipal Executive Council of that economist association in this jurisdiction of the province of Santiago conceived the schedule with a view to developing the process of balance, which will occupy each of the grassroots delegations that this territory has, scattered by the agri-food, business, services and global economy sectors, among others.

In dialogue with Rafael Cala Machiran, who presides the Executive Council of the Association of Economists and Accountants of Contramaestre, we inquired about what will happen from the base sections in anticipation of this congress:

Economists in Contramaestre faces their challenges

Rafael Cala Machiran: “The municipality has designed to hold 43 balance assemblies in the period June-September 2023. In December we will hold the one that will close this process at the territorial level. Likewise, in consultation with the superior organism there is interest that the pilot assembly of the province of Santiago de Cuba be held in Contramaestre in view of the positive results exhibited for 16 consecutive years, which becomes a major challenge in the preparatory and organizational order”.

Journalist: For the ANEC, could the issues of prices and speculation have a different look, based on the claims made by the population?

R. C.M.: “From the technical point of view, yes. We, the economists, have to take into account the causes that are affecting inflation, among which we can mention: high import costs, inefficiencies in state enterprises and the speculation that is manifested with prices, especially with imported goods, which translates in many occasions into a process of resale of goods”.

Q: What does ANEC expect, therefore, from Contramaestre with the realization of the organic process Ninth Congress of this organization?

R. C.M: “It constitutes a major challenge for us: to demonstrate in this process prior to the Ninth Congress, the contribution of our economists in the actions that contribute to dynamize the national economy.”

Q: This important process will make it possible for the ANEC membership of Contramaestre to take advantage of each of the scenarios that cover the grassroots sections of this organization to evaluate the fulfillment of the work strategy carried out from 2019 until now, to define its new projections for the next five years, with emphasis on those actions, creative initiatives and solutions that contribute to the transformations that are introduced in the Cuban economy.
