A health intervention was carried out in the Ramón Gómez neighborhood, located in the popular council of Baire, belonging to the municipality of Contramaestre, with a view to identifying the main health risks that may be caused by the heavy rains of previous days and the flooding of the rivers.
About a hundred health professionals from this sector went to the most affected areas of the community in the early hours of the morning, where they carried out research tasks, detected the main sources of Aedes Aegypti, and evaluated the blocks most compromised with the transmission of infections due to the water that is still stagnant.
Health education
The Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the municipality carried out an intense educational work with the neighbors regarding the proliferation of diseases after the heavy rains, such as diarrhea and dengue.
Likewise, specialists warned about the danger posed by carelessness in the fight against Arbovirosis. The main exhortations during the activity were to boil drinking water, destroy objects that could serve as breeding places for the vector and increase the use of fish in containers.
The medical specialists, for their part, went to different parts of the area to attend to the greatest number of patients. Consultations ranged from Orthopedics, Internal Medicine and Obstetrics to Gastroenterology and Stomatology. In this way, chronic diseases in the area are followed up.
The initiative is a way of raising the population’s awareness regarding the surveillance of communicable diseases, in addition to bringing specialized consultations to a remote area recently affected by the hydrometeorological phenomenon.
