Admiration for the rooted farmers

I admire that tanned face of farmers, that earns its daily bread under the sun, with its feet in the furrow, those men and women who in the middle of the field, drenched in sweat, work with the earth to make it produce.

I respect that “rooted farmer” who gets up before the rooster crows, who has the habit of drinking a cup of coffee and wearing hat, who venerates the lunar calendar and also his saints.

Because these children of the dawn who know their work, so skilled in the chores and the hard life of the countryside, are grateful this May 17, the signing of the most important law of the Revolution, a law that meant total freedom with full rights.

These farmer souls who still write with the earth in their fingertips, recall yesterday, remembering their peers with calloused hands since they were children, who only had dolls made of corncobs or a pair of small bottles pulled by a rope, simulating a yoke of oxen.

Farmers and the Yaya

That force of adoration of the soil, evokes the Yaya, who seasoned with tears the food of four children; the time of flour and a kilo of bread for the food snack.

With blood and suffering, Cuba gave the right to the land, made the promise made by the Centennial Generation come true, an idea proposed by the Peasant Congress in Arms, a dream made by hand and without permission, only with the leadership of Fidel.

Because of this eternal gratitude, the Contramaestrian peasants defend the prosperity of their fields, with the baptism of science, technology and infinite love, they defend the maintenance of food production for the people.

Because of this infinite gratitude, these men and women of the countryside never stop working, making furrows and filling them, harvesting their fruits, raising their own and everyone’s, so that the land continues to be an immense light.
